Pareto Principle – Maximizing Output

The Pareto principle states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes (Wikipedia). In sales, this has been translated to 80% of sales coming from 20% of the clients. Which essentially means that the majority of your efforts should focus on accommodating those 20% rather than the people just wasting your time.
But here’s what’s really powerful about this principle. The notion that we can get 80% impact by focusing our efforts on the right 20%.
This thought gets me jazzed up when I think about elevating my performance in every area of my life. How do I focus efforts on the right 20%?
The right foods to eat, exercises to perform, skills to develop, books to read, methods of practice to perform.
If I typically workout for 1 hour. Can I actually figure out how to get 80% of the impact from that work out in the first 12 minutes?
This is why having coaches is huge. Why having mentors is critical. Why reading and leveraging deep insights organized and articulated by wonderful thought leaders is life changing.
This is why I sought out a top 20 pro racquetball player in the world to give me a lesson. Why I only trust learning cross-fit from a dear friend that I grew up with and trust like a brother. Why I listened to every word that my performance coaches had to offer when living in the high performing world of Management Consulting.
Don’t waste time on the work producing no fruit. Figure out how to optimize every area of your life.
