Peaks and Valleys

“When you’re going through hell, keep going” – Winston Churchill

Have you every felt like you were done?

Your energy is gone.

Your confidence is low.

Your mind is weak.

Everything seems to be going against you.

But some way some how…

You take one more step.

And then another.

And then 15 steps turns into 30.

Eventually, 1 more mile is behind you.

And then 2.

And then 5, or 10, or 20.

And then it happens.

We never know when, but it happens.

At some point, and all of a sudden, your energy starts to come back.

Your mood starts to lighten up.

You start smiling a little bit.

Your body starts to feel good again.

The weather seems to be taking a positive turn.

The universe is seemingly now on your side.

All of the things, once gloomy, now conspire to help you.

My past 50 mile race served me this old and beautiful lesson…

Runs, much like life, have peaks and valleys.

At mile 18, I was feeling great.

At mile 26, I was suffering.

At mile 34, I was a new person, revitalized and alive.

At mile 41, I was questioning whether or not I’d make it.

At mile 47, I was home free and feeling on top of the world.

Like life, it’s important to know that it’s always darkest right before the dawn.

Regardless of your race…

Distance…

Time…

or Pitfalls of life…

When you’re suffering it’s important to know

You’re not alone.

You matter.

Better times are ahead.

One step in front of the other.

Keep moving forward.
